SLJ-Week 1 day 3 activity 3
Activity 3: The WWF: World Wildlife Fund [10 points]
In 1961, a number of people came together to start an organisation called the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). The main goal of this organisation was/is to protect life on earth. Hundreds of WWF staff work in countries all over the world trying to protect our planet and the animals who live here. To learn more about their amazing work, click on one of the two video links below.
Clip #1: Freshwater Seals
Clip #2: Tigers
Once you have watched the video, go to your blog and, using full sentences, tell us:
1) The name of the animal the WWF is working to save.
2) What the WWF is doing to help the animal.
3) What, if any, success they have had protecting the animal.
1.The WWF is trying to save saimaa ringed seal
2.Making snow banks for the saimaa ringed seal so they can lay there eggs
3.I am not sure if they succsed of not?

Hi Mason,
ReplyDeleteI'm Leslie and I'm a member of the Summer Learning Journey team, reading your blog from Canada where I live. Isn't it amazing that I can be a part of this special program while living on the other side of the planet?!!
I'm glad that you've chosen to look at the plight of the freshwater seals in Finland. It's heart-warming that something as simple as pushing snow into snowdrifts can save the lives of baby seals. And it's heart-warming to know that there are people willing to make the effort to build snowdrifts for the seals, in order to support that population of animals.
Would you be willing to give time to do something like this, to help an animal population survive? Are you interested in science?
I can appreciate that the video didn't seem to say whether or not the WWF has been successful in saving the freshwater seals. I went to the website and read a little bit more and it appears that, when snowdrifts have been created in the past, seals have produced their babies there and the seal babies have survived. So I think the WWF has been successful in helping the situation.
I hope you'll continue to work at the activities in the SLJ program. I'll just say, too, that when you're asked to give full sentence answers to questions, it would be good to make sure that you have, indeed, written a full sentence with a noun, a verb and a period or some other form of punctuation at the end.
Otherwise, you're doing very well!! Good for you!!
Cheers,
Leslie
